THE APPEALS BOARD INDEX™ is a cumulative alphabetical and topical index of decisions issued by the State of Hawaii, Labor and Industrial Relations Appeals Board.
THE APPEALS BOARD INDEX™ is available as an on-line, or hard-copy service; or both. In the case of the hard copy, it consists of lists designed to help the researcher find cases with issues similar to the subject of their research. So far, there are seven (7) volumes of the hard copy. Some lists date back to the establishment of the Board in 1969.
An initial subscription to the hard-copy is costly, as it includes all 7 earlier volumes plus the cost of preparing and mailing the quarterly and annual supplements. The service includes quarterly supplements in April, July, and October. In January of every year, the data for the previous year is compiled together and replaces the quarterly supplements and becomes a new volume.
While the hard-copy is useful, researchers are encouraged to augment or replace their hard-copy subscription to an on-line subscription, where the search features are virtually unlimited, especially in cases where the decisions were issued on and after 2/1/2002 when the actual decisions were posted on-line. On-line, all of the data is included in the database, eliminating the need to check earlier volumes. The search screens link to a summary of the case and in cases after 1/1/2002 to the actual decision. It is much easier and faster to obtain information using the on-line service. Many of the search features are impossible to produce for the hard-copy subscribers.

Chronological list by the index number, cross referencing the insurance carrier or carriers, or self insured, the appellant in the case, and the Labor and Industrial Relations Appeals Board's [Board] action on the decision on appeal. (Includes decisions issued from January 1, 1986 through present.)
Alphabetical List of Experts
Lists of expert alphabetically, whose treatment, report(s), testimony or opinion(s) were considered (credited, rejected or otherwise mentioned) by the Board in reaching their decisions. It includes a topical cross reference indicating the body parts, issues or doctrines involved in the case. (Includes decisions issued from January 1, 1986 through present.)

The actual Labor & Industrial Relations Appeals Board secisions issued on and after January 1, 2002 are also on-line and can be down loaded and/or printed.
QUARTERLY SUPPLEMENTS - You receive quarterly updates to the index in April, July and October of each year (hard copy). The database is updated quarterly for the on-line subscribers.
